Community Fitness

Rates are adjusted for seasonal use, couples, and seniors.  Times and dates are subject to change based on class size, season, and instructor availability.  Please contact our office at 238-4090 to confirm the availabilty and times of select classes.

Step Above is a community gym program for the public to utilize the fitness and exercise equipment at a daily or monthly rate. The staff at Xcel Physical Therapy will be available to assist clients in establishing a regime and demonstrating how the equipment works.  The program is designed to promote healthy lifestyles in Northern Michigan as well as assisting their clients in follow through of their treatments.

Power Hour: An easy to follow circuit exercise program to strengthen the entire body primarily using nautilus type exercise equipment.  Instructor Kathy Clancy on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 11:00am

 

Step Above and Power Hour are same reduced rate.

 

Xcel Physical Therapy also offers  1:1 personal training and enhancement tailored to the individual or team, please call for specific details. 

Group programs will be offered to the community throughout the year. For more information please call us or check with our local paper.  Punch cards are available to allow participants flexibility in choosing which exercise classes they want to attend each week as well as opportunity to make up missed classes.  Participants can choose to buy an unlimited monthly pass to participate in all classes with unlimited visits or an 8 visit punch card which allows 8 total visits to any of the classes (*Excludes Yoga).

Current group programs at Xcel Physical Therapy include:

Core N More: a high intensity program designed to build strength and reduce low back pain as well as tone and trim the areas around your buns, hips and thighs.  Previous experience in core strengthening suggested.  This class is instructed by Ben Kolly , a licensed physical therapist and Nolan Griffin ATC.  Classes are Tues 6:00 pm.

Core N More-Beginner: a medium intensity program designed to educate on appropriate techniques for deep muscle training around the spine as well as build upon strength and reduce low back pain.  Previous experience in core NOT required.    Tues and Thurs 4:00 pm.

Senior Exercise/Fitness: a low level impact class using weights, bands, and bodyweight for toning.  Participants will be engaged in sitting and standing exercises.  Class dates are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8:30 an 10:30 am.  Instructed by Paula.

Zumba: a entry-medium level class designed to challenge participants fitness in an innovative way of dance.  Minimal experience in dance is beneficial; however the instructor will incorporate dance movements from the Merengue, Salsa Cha Cha, Cumbia, Salsa, Rock & Roll (including Twist and Charleston), Belly Dance, Flamenco, and Tango.  Class dates are Mon and Wed at 6:30 pm.  They will be taught by Sharon Latier. 

Aquatics: a beginner to intermediate level class incorporating core and lower extremity strengthening in the pool.  These classes can augment home physical therapy programs or used just for exercise and fitness. Classes will be held at the Hometown Inn Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 am.  Cost for this class is $5/session payable to the Hometown Inn.  Instructed by Jennifer Forman.

Yoga: Beginner/Gentle Yoga class designed to teach breathing patterns, stretches, relaxation, and toning.  Instructor is Mary McMillan, Certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor.  Classes are Thursdays at 10:30-12:00.  Cost for this class is $10/session.

Cardio / Strength Training: 60 minute class working to strengthen all the major muscle groups (upper and lower body) using free weights, tubes, balls, kettlebells, etc.   Additionally there are bursts of high intensity cardio.   Instructed by Paula at 5:15 pm Mondays & Wednesdays.

Beginning Aerobics: Beginning to intermediate program of strength training and cardio exercises. Instructed by Tina at 7pm Tuesdays & Thursdays.

Weekend Warriors: total body interval training combining strength training with aerobics to tone muscle and improve fitness.  Taught by Paula Saturdays TBA.

Cardio "Boot Camp" Circuit: a total body circuit style workout consisting of plyometric, strength, agility, and aerobic exercises designed to burn calories while working your body head to toe Instructed by Nolan at 10am on select Saturdays

Step Class: an intermediate level class utilizing the step and dumbbells for a cardio and low level strength training experience.  Classes are taught by Julie and are Fridays 4pm

Butts and Gutts: 45 minutes of exercise consisting of 25 minutes of abdominal strengthening and sculpting and 20 minutes of lifting and rounding of the gluteal muscles (buttocks). Taught by Paula 

Step and Sulpt: 60 minute exercise consisting of abdominal strengthening and sculpting intermixed with step aerobics for maximal calorie burn.  Taught by Julie
